There's been a lot of fuss made over Ruud scoring his first goal for United outside the area. It's been a long standing joke for rival supporters. You look at his career at United, and he's scored 138 goals in 190 appearances.

Shearer has scored more Premiership goals than anyone, and has had a great career as a striker, scoring plenty from outside the area, and good for him. He's probably considered as the greatest striker the Premiership has seen, right? Lets compare him with Ruud.
When looking at the Premiership, Ruud has made 127 appearances for United, after joining us when he was 25, and he's now 29. If we look at Alan Shearer aged 25 up until the age of 29, he made 113 appearances. Ruud has scored 84, Shearer scored 72. So Ruud has played in 14 more games than Shearer had, and scored 12 more goals.
So, great for Ruud that he scored outside the box and now the "Ruud cant score from outside the area" will turn in to "Ruud has only ever scored 1 from outside the area", but really, I couldnt care less if he's scoring from the half way line or from 1 yard out, whether it goes in off his arse or his foot. Goals are what you need from a striker, and Ruud fulfills that role perfectly.
